In these turbulent times, what the world needs most is yet another J-blog, no? Ok, ok, maybe not. But that won’t stop us. First things first, we are not related to DovBear (though by the time we get rolling, we bet he’ll wish he was). We are not going to “out” DovBear for two reasons. First, we think anyone who wishes anonynimity should have it. Second, we don’t know who the heck he is. Ok, that’s who we aren’t. Then, who are we? Well, let’s not get all exestential on the first date.
This is a blog in progress, blogress, if you will (and even if you won’t). Therefore, we will start out in one direction, we haven’t exactly figured out what that direction is yet, and may end off somewhere entirely different. Hey, that sounds like a road trip we took to Canada a few years back but that’s a story for another time.
Perhaps, we should just copy and paste our “Profile” statement from this blog and leave it at that:
We don’t read DovBear any more. He’s tedious, curmudgeonly, virulently pessimistic and the guy can’t spell. Even if his intentions are good (which we suspect is not always the case), his childish approach leads one to believe that he just enjoys making fun of, well, anyone who views the world differently than he does. Sometimes, that allows an important issue to be denigrated to pointlessness, which is a shame. Now, he is shlepping others into the game, miserableness loves company.
So, what will we be doing here, other than capitalizing on the curious ability of DovBear to draw copious amounts of traffic? We will try to present a less jaundiced, less derisive view of the world, politics and Judaism while maintaining a sense of humor. In doing so, we probably will have to begin reading DovBear again (what we won’t do for you) and we just might step on DovBear’s foot so we apologize in advance.
uh-oh

Blogress–gotta love it. I don’t read DB anymore either, for exactly the reasons you mention. Especially the spelling.

oh, and lay off the attacks on people’s spelling. Some people just have terrible language genes

I don’t have such a big problem with spelling errors as I do with glaring typos that indicate carelessness. Glaring typos in comments are one thing but when you have them in the post itself, it shows that you don’t care what you throw up there. Sadly, that is often apparent from the content itself.

I’d like to remind you that DovBear is provided at no charge. That’s right, you all get to read my scribblings for free, and the comment boards so many of you enjoy for hours and hours on end, are also provided at no cost to the readers.
So it is somewhat churlish to complain about the spelling, or even the quality of the blog’s content. No one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to visit, and having accepted no payments from any of my readers, I’m under no obligation to provide them with anything at all.
If you think the writing is slapdash, go read something else.

DovBear,
You’re kidding, your ruminations are free?! Why the heck have you been sending me a bill for those few months when I used to read the blog?
You made an analogy on your blog to RW talk radio. I happen to agree that it’s horrible, repetitive and lacking nuance. Sometimes, I feel the same way about your blog. Also, like RW talk radio, the blog was originally popular bc people were afraid to discuss these issues in person for fear of castigation. Once these shows were up and running, they had a guaranteed audience. As to simply tuning out or pointing my browser elsewhere, it’s not that simple. Just like you are not content with simply ignoring an opposing political view, we are not content with letting some of your views go unchallenged. It’s like you’re Rush Limbaugh and we’re your Al Franken. (‘Cept you’re not a Right Wing wind bag and we’re not self-hating Jews (and we’re better looking than Franken, who isn’t?))
